The “En Garde for All” project is an international initiative aimed at creating a more inclusive sports environment for neurodiverse and LGBTI+ people. It is based on the understanding that these groups often face intersecting forms of discrimination and exclusion, including a lack of accessible facilities, misunderstanding, and a hostile environment in sports.
The project uses fencing as a pilot sport in which practical solutions for inclusion can be implemented—thanks to its structure, adaptability, and opportunities for an individualized approach. Through collaboration between organizations with expertise in LGBTI+ rights, mental health, and neurodiversity, as well as sports clubs, the project is developing and testing a model for intersectional inclusion that can be applied to other sports as well.
At the same time, the project builds capacity among coaches, creates a supportive community for participants, and promotes best practices for inclusion in sports at the local and European levels.
