Ripple Effect

The Ripple Effect project unites 4 LGBTI organizations from Bulgaria, working in the main cities of Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna, to address the shrinking civic space for LGBTI rights defenders. The project will enhance the capacity of the partners to monitor anti-LGBTI political rhetoric that incubates laws restricting their work and assess the broader social impact of such developments. It will also demonstrate to the general public that respect for LGBTI people’s rights and their visibility is the “litmus test” for democracy in an EU member state. The project will foster defragmentation in the human rights field, improve value-based collaboration between different types of civic organizations, local and national authorities, and educational institutions, and mainstream the narrative that warns against breaches of rights and freedoms.

• – Conducting Social Impact Assessment on the impact of the changes in the law for pre-school and school education from 2024
  • A mix of qualitative and quantitative methods will be used to gather data from different groups directly and indirectly affected by the legislative change such as teachers, CSO’s, the general public, etc. We will gather input from more than 40 interviews and more than 300 online questionnaire responses from a variety of cities.
• – Developing Social Impact Assessment report
  • The data gathered, along with active monitoring of EU responses and a public opinion poll will all be included in a comprehensive report which will serve as an advocacy tool to different stakeholders.

• – Awareness-raising and dissemination
  • The results from the impact assessment will be disseminated through stakeholder workshops, a workshop at the ILGA-Europe conference as well as an awareness campaign which will reach over 50 000 people.
